Northeast Pennsylvania Dental Assistant Society

Noteworthy News

In April 2010 HB602 passed the PA Legislation process and was signed by our Governor. This bill expands the scope of practice for Expanded Function Dental Assistants by allowing them to perform coronal polishing, administer fluoride and take impressions for athletic appliances. It also creates a seat on the PA State Board of Dentistry for an Expanded Function Dental Assistant and another dentist. The NEPADAS would like to thank all dental assistants who wrote letters to their Senators asking for support of this legislation. We would also like to thank the PDA, PAGD, and the PDHA for their support in helping to get this bill passed and advancing dental assisting in Pennsylvania.

Volunteer Dental Assistants needed
Volunteers in Medicine has opened its dental clinic at 190 N Pennsylvania Ave, Wilkes-Barre and they are looking for dental assistants to work with their volunteer dentists. Any day and/or time you can give would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Kelly Ranieli at or call 570-970-2864.

We are pleased to share the good news from Philadelphia. MOM-n-PA in collaboration with the Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry will be holding our dental mission at the dental school on September 24 and 25, 2021. We would like to thank Dean Amid Ismail for his help by providing full access to the facilities at the dental school so we can fulfill our mission of treating underserved dental needs in Pennsylvania.

MOM-n-PA will be held at the Temple Dental School because the facility provides the increased safety we need for our volunteers and patients. Full personal protective equipment (PPE) for all volunteers will be provided. We will be able to use individual, separated operatories instead of the open arena treatment areas we have had in the past. Full protocols will be provided in future emails.

Professional and lay volunteers will be needed as at our previous events. Look forward to the volunteer registration opening on June 1, 2021. You will receive a registration link at that time but please save the date in your calendars now.

In closing, we are reminded of the first part of our MOM-n-PA mission statement, “We believe the heart of dental care is service to others. We believe in our commitment to the communities around Pennsylvania to treat the underserved without pride or prejudice.” MOM-n-PA 2021 will be yet another step in the return to normalcy for all of us.
